According to the latest analyses conducted by the Chisinau Public Health Center, intestinal parasites, coliform bacteria, and vibrios were detected in the water samples taken from the capital’s lakes. The results confirm that swimming in these bodies of water poses a major health risk, reports IPN.
The Association for the Management of Green Spaces warns that the lakes in the parks of Valea Morilor, Valea Trandafirilor, La Izvor, and Rascani do not have the status of authorized swimming basins. They are largely fed by meteoric waters and do not have cleaning or filtration systems, which promotes the accumulation of sludge and pollution.
The authorities emphasize that swimming in these waters is not recommended and advise the capital’s residents to avoid bathing.
To prevent accidents and inform people about risks, the Water Rescue Department’s employees patrol the recreational areas daily.
