Two women and a man were sentenced by the Chisinau Court to 4 and, respectively, 5 years in prison in the case of mass disorders in Moldova, brought to court in April last year. The sentences were pronounced in their absence, reports IPN.

The Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) mentions that the three individuals have been accused of participating in training in Bosnia and Herzegovina to prepare scenarios for destabilizing the country after the presidential elections and the referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union, held in the autumn of 2024.

Upon returning to Moldova, the individuals were detained, and mini-drones with video cameras, radio control equipment, and launching mechanisms for containers with flammable substances were found in their luggage.

The investigation also established that the defendants convinced three other men to participate in these trainings, two of whom are athletes, and the third has a criminal record, having been previously convicted for murder.

PCCOCS specifies that, after the maximum 12 months of preventive detention, the accused man was released and is currently hiding from authorities. One of the suspects was placed under house arrest, while the other was released under judicial control.

“Subsequent to their location and detention, after the finalization of the sentence, which can be appealed to the Court of Appeal, the three convicts are to be placed in prison,” mentions PCCOCS.

The devices seized at the time of detention were confiscated.
