The Public Property Agency (APP) proposes extending the term of lease for commercial spaces at the Chisinau Airport from 3 to 5 years for the winning bidder.

The Agency said in a press release that the 3-year term initially proposed is based on the existing legal norms. To exclude the current limitation, the Agency will come up with proposals to adjust the law. It will also propose the inclusion of the Chisinau International Airport State Enterprise in the list of assets that may not be privatized.

The deadline for the initiation of the auction will run from the moment of the amendment of the legislation regarding non-privatizable assets.

In order to attract more well-known international companies, considering that in the last stage of the previous auction only one company eventually bid, the Public Property Agency proposes that a new tender be organized on different conditions. The APP will recommend the AIC to examine the appropriateness of the specification adjustment. One recommendation is to reduce the number of airports where participants have to demonstrate their activity as a recommendation, from 10 to 7, but also to divide the auction into two distinct lots, one lot for Travel Retail (shops) and another lot for Food and Beverages (restaurants).

According to MP Radu Marian (PAS), chair of the Economy Commission, Parliament is ready to support the change of the rental term from 3 to 5 years and to amend the legislation as soon as feasible.
