The National Agency for Energy Regulation has approved the extension of the trading platform BRM EST for the next ten years. According to the authorities, this decision ensures the continuity of the mechanism for setting a fair gas price, based on supply and demand, and promotes transparency in the energy market in Moldova, IPN reports.
ANRE mentions that the BRM EST platform, active in Moldova since 2022, plays a significant role in creating a fair and transparent market for selling and purchasing natural gas. Operating in a secure online space, it allows suppliers and other authorized participants to conduct efficient transactions and quickly adjust gas volumes when an imbalance occurs in the network, thus preventing price fluctuations and supply interruptions.
Through this platform, which includes several market segments such as the Gas Forward Market and the Spot Market, energy sector actors have flexible tools at their disposal to respond to short and long-term commercial needs. Additionally, the balancing platform helps maintain a functional transportation system.
“Although household consumers do not directly participate in transactions, the proper functioning of the platform has a major impact on price stability and gas supply security, ANRE further explains.”
The legislation provides for a gradual transition to the free market in the coming years, which will allow for direct negotiations between providers and consumers, and BRM EST will provide the necessary framework for a safe and fair transition.
“Last year, almost 9 TWh of gas were traded on the platform, covering a large part of domestic consumption. Starting this year, the platform will publish daily indicative gas prices, in order to provide a clear picture of the market’s evolution.”
At the same time, the representatives of ANRE reiterated that these measures are essential for protecting the interests of consumers and for strengthening the energy independence of the Republic of Moldova, in an increasingly competitive energy context.
