Another 20 days of preventive arrest for Ciochina, in the case where he is accused of torture

The preventive arrest of Nicanor Ciochina, in a case where he is accused of torture and inhuman treatment, has been extended for another 20 days. The information was confirmed for IPN by the spokesperson of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, Emil Gaitur.

According to PCCOCS, Nicanor Ciochină is under criminal investigation after he allegedly physically and verbally assaulted a resident of Boldurești commune, who had difficulty moving due to a leg condition. The defendant allegedly hit the victim with his hands and feet, hurling insults at him. The reason for the alleged aggression was supposedly the desire to punish him for setting fire to the vegetation on a plot of land in the outskirts of the locality.

Nicanor Ciochina was detained on January 29, at the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, where a hearing took place in the case in which he is accused of causing the fatal accident of a teenager. In this case, the former mayor of Bolduresti is due to receive his sentence on February 27. The prosecutors are requesting a 9-year prison sentence for committing and leaving the scene of the road accident.

The National Agency for Energy Regulation will examine on Friday the request from Energocom regarding the increase in natural gas prices. The subject was included on the agenda of the ANRE meeting on July 24, reports IPN.

Energocom has requested an increase in the regulated price for consumers connected to low-pressure distribution networks from 13.35 lei to 19.37 lei per cubic meter, excluding VAT.

The request is motivated by the increase in natural gas procurement costs, against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the volatility of international markets. According to Energocom, these have generated an estimated tariff deficit of around 106 million lei.
