The price of electrical energy will decrease by at least 25% since December and will remain at a reduced level throughout winter. The Commission for Exceptional Situations will convene today and will order to review the power charges. Later, the National Agency for Energy Regulation will determine exactly how much the consumers will pay, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, told a news conference.
“In the recent past, we had thorny negotiations with representatives of Tiraspol. The price of electricity as a result of this agreement is to decline. We are responsible for the fate of millions of people and it is our duty to make sure that the electricity charges are lower. At this stage, we can consider that we will have electrical energy for the whole country this winter. The gas needs to be used primarily for electricity and heat. We reduced considerably the risk of blackouts in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine,” stated Andrei Spînu.
The official said he is against disconnecting the left side of the Nistru from all the energy resources. “The citizens from the left side must have electricity and heat. I do not support the idea of disconnecting the left bank from all the energy resources. These voices suggest scenarios that do not take into account the difficult situation in which we are,” stated Andrei Spînu.
The Deputy Premier noted that for the first time the right bank of the Nistru will be fully supplied with gas bought from international markets. “We do not expect the gas prices to rise. The average purchase price is about US$1,000. We continue buying gas. From today, we will not inform about the exact amount of stored gas for security reasons. Gas for Moldova was secured for at least two months,” stated Andrei Spînu.
Gazprom will be informed by Moldovagaz about this decision taken by the Moldovan constitutional authorities. “Gazprom wasn’t against, but will be informed by additional letters by Moldovagaz. As to the decision that Gazprom can take, from this moment it will be the unilateral decision of Gazprom if the left side remains without gas,” said the official.
SA Energocom has signed a contract for the supply of electricity for December with MGRES (Kuchurgan power plant). SA Moldovagaz will supply 5.7 million cubic meters of gas a day to the left side of the Nistru, including MGRES.
