An international creditor could invest in Moldovan banks, announces the head of BNM

A major international creditor could soon enter the banking market in Moldova, against the backdrop of sector reforms and the consolidation of financial stability, says the governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Anca Dragu, reports IPN.

“I am convinced that we will see big international names in Moldova sooner or later,” Anca Dragu said in an interview for the publication Bloomberg, conducted on the sidelines of the Central and Eastern Europe Forum in Vienna.

The head of the national bank drew attention to recent developments that could support the expansion of Moldova’s banking sector and noted that there are currently ten “well-capitalized” banks operating in the country, with a high level of liquidity.

Last year, the Republic of Moldova joined the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), a unified system for transactions in the common currency of the European Union.

The National Agency for Energy Regulation will examine on Friday the request from Energocom regarding the increase in natural gas prices. The subject was included on the agenda of the ANRE meeting on July 24, reports IPN.

Energocom has requested an increase in the regulated price for consumers connected to low-pressure distribution networks from 13.35 lei to 19.37 lei per cubic meter, excluding VAT.

The request is motivated by the increase in natural gas procurement costs, against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the volatility of international markets. According to Energocom, these have generated an estimated tariff deficit of around 106 million lei.
