An employee of the Chisinau Court, Central headquarters, and a lawyer have been detained for 72 hours following this morning’s searches. They are suspected of influence peddling. According to the National Anti-Corruption Center, the two allegedly devised a scheme to influence the outcomes of cases pending in court, reports IPN.
NAC specifies that the lawyer would have transferred to the court employee amounts ranging between 4,500 and 6,000 euros for each case. He would have claimed that he has influence over judges from courts of different levels and that he can persuade them to pronounce favorable decisions in the interest of a business agent.
As part of the investigation, the NAC officers, under the procedural guidance of the Anti-Corruption Prosecution prosecutors, carried out searches at the suspects’ residences and in their cars, as well as in an office. Following the raids, objects and documents deemed relevant to the criminal case were seized.
The two suspects were detained and placed in the detention center of the NAC for criminal investigation. The investigations continue to establish all the circumstances of the case and to identify other individuals who might be involved in the scheme.
