A degraded area, transformed over time into a rubbish dump, is being redeveloped in the village of Oniscani in the Calarasi district, with the support of the National Environment Fund. The project involves strengthening the banks of the river, building retaining walls, creating pedestrian and bicycle paths and planting trees and shrubs. The construction site was inspected by Environment Minister Sergiu Lazarencu, reports IPN.
The total value of the project is about 10 million lei. One of the few sewage treatment plants in rural areas also operates in this locality, providing sewage treatment for the whole community, according to a press release from the environment ministry.
Another environmental project is being implemented in the village of Bahmut in the same district. With money from the National Environment Fund, the local administration has purchased 800 waste bins and a tractor for waste collection. Recently, the municipality obtained a new project from the same fund to modernize the tractor with equipment that will make waste management more efficient.
“Such projects must be a priority for all localities. I urge local authorities to continue to invest in environmental protection and in the future of their communities”, said Minister Sergiu Lazarencu.
