A 52-year-old woman died after being hit by a car near the town of Rassvet in the Straseni district. The woman was on the roadside, holding a bovine on a rope, and the rope was allegedly caught by the car, pulling her onto the roadway, reports IPN.

According to the General Inspectorate of Police, it was preliminarily established that the animal was on the opposite side of the road, and the rope with which it was held might have been caught by the car. As a result of the impact, the woman was hit and died on the spot, before the arrival of the medical team. The section of the road was not illuminated.

Behind the wheel of the car was a 59-year-old man. He was tested with a breathalyzer, and the result was negative.

Police are continuing their investigation to establish all the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Two employees of the National Agency for Food Safety and three representatives of economic agents are under criminal investigation in a case of passive corruption, active corruption, and influence peddling. As part of the case, officers from the National Anticorruption Center and prosecutors are conducting 10 searches, reports IPN.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, ANSA inspectors at the Leușeni-Albița border inspection post are alleged to have demanded and received between 500 and 800 euros from business agents. In exchange for the money, they are said to have carried out superficial checks of imported goods, allowing non-compliant products to enter the country without taking or examining laboratory samples.

Law enforcement officials specify that, through these actions, sanitary-veterinary and phytosanitary norms would have been violated, and importers would have breached their legal obligation to ensure the safety of products intended for consumers.

Searches are taking place at the residences and work offices of the targeted individuals. One person has been detained for 72 hours and placed in the CNA isolation ward, while the other four are being investigated while free. The investigations continue to identify all involved individuals.
