The candidate of the “Democracy at Home” Party, excluded from the race for the mayor of Orhei city

Victor Pertu, the candidate of the “Home Democracy” Party for the position of mayor of Orhei municipality, has been excluded from the electoral race. The Central Electoral Commission found his active involvement in the activities of the former political party “Sor”, reports IPN.

The decision was made following a request submitted by Sergiu Stanciu, the candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party for the position of mayor of Orhei municipality, who requested the cancellation of Victor Pertu’s registration. The complaint invoked the existence of a disguised electoral block between the Democracy at Home Party and the party declared unconstitutional, “Sor”.

According to the Commission, the activity of supporting the political formation took place both before and after the declaration of unconstitutionality of the “Sor” party, including involvement in actions of parties considered successors.

Also, the CEC has examined the video materials presented by the challenger and concluded that the messages and visual elements included indicate the candidate’s connections with the party declared unconstitutional. Furthermore, following the analysis of the list of campaign volunteers, individuals were identified who have political affiliation with the parties from the self-proclaimed political bloc “Victory”. The electoral authority emphasized that these elements suggest the existence of a disguised electoral bloc.

Consequently, the CEC has annulled the decision of the Orhei district electoral council regarding the registration of the “Democracy at Home” Party candidate for the local elections on May 17.

The President of the “Home Democracy” Party, Vasile Costiuc, stated that the CEC’s decision is abusive and will be contested in the Court of Appeal within the legal term.

Meteorologists have issued a yellow heatwave warning for this weekend. In most parts of the country, the maximum temperatures will reach +34 degrees Celsius, reports IPN.

The warning is valid for the center, south, and east of the country. Several districts in the north are also under the yellow code. The northernmost districts of the country such as Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet, Drochia, Soroca, Glodeni, Rascani, and Donduseni – are not affected by the warning.

According to the Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, the warning can be updated depending on the evolution of weather phenomena.

During periods of heatwave, authorities recommend people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, to consume enough fluids, and to pay increased attention to children, the elderly, and people with chronic conditions.
