The authorities announce that the pollution with petroleum products on the Dniester river has significantly decreased upstream of the installed dams, after a rise in the level of pollutants was recorded on Friday evening. The Minister of Environment, Gheorghe Hajder, went to Arionesti, Donduseni district, to assess the impact and coordinate interventions, reports IPN.

“Starting at 03:00 AM, we began to bring in additional materials. Also, additional teams have been mobilized, ready to act promptly depending on the dynamics of the situation,” states the minister.

According to him, the authorities remain cautious and ensure the presence of teams in the field until the elimination of any risk. In parallel, specialists continue to monitor the water quality through sample collection.

“At the same time, we remain in constant contact with the authorities in Ukraine for an efficient exchange of information and coordination of cross-border actions,” asserts Gheorghe Hajder.

According to the minister, these new pollution spots are caused by the rise in water level, determined by precipitation and discharges from storage lakes.

Meteorologists have issued a yellow heatwave warning for this weekend. In most parts of the country, the maximum temperatures will reach +34 degrees Celsius, reports IPN.

The warning is valid for the center, south, and east of the country. Several districts in the north are also under the yellow code. The northernmost districts of the country such as Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet, Drochia, Soroca, Glodeni, Rascani, and Donduseni – are not affected by the warning.

According to the Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, the warning can be updated depending on the evolution of weather phenomena.

During periods of heatwave, authorities recommend people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, to consume enough fluids, and to pay increased attention to children, the elderly, and people with chronic conditions.
