The judicial control over the former head of the Parliament’s Legal Department, Ion Creanga, has been extended by 60 days. The defense requested that the restrictions imposed by the judicial control not be limited only to Chisinau, but to allow the defendant’s movement throughout the country, however, the court did not admit this request, reports IPN.

The accused did not appear at the court hearing, citing health issues. The defense submitted medical documents indicating an unsatisfactory condition, however, the court found that these do not clearly prove the impossibility of attending the meeting, lacking an explicit medical conclusion in this regard.

The case prosecutor, Dumitru Stefirta, stated that a clear medical certificate is needed, issued by a specialist, indicating whether the defendant can attend sessions. At the same time, the prosecutor pointed out the defense’s contradiction: on one hand, they claim that the defendant cannot appear in court for medical reasons, on the other hand, they assert that he could travel outside of Chisinau to manage a household, which, in the prosecutor’s opinion, is incompatible.

Creanga’s lawyer, Iurie Florea, stated that the extension of the measure is common in such cases, but it would not be necessary here, as the defendant does not pose a risk of evasion. According to the defender, the client intends to participate in the sessions and has not requested the case to be examined in his absence.

The next court hearing was scheduled for April 3, at 10:00 AM. The court warned that, in the absence of conclusive medical documents, the defendant’s absence could be deemed unjustified.

Ion Creanga is accused of treason and conspiracy against the state. According to prosecutors, during the period of 2023-2024, he allegedly maintained correspondence and clandestine meetings with an assistant to the military attaché of the Russian Federation Embassy in Chisinau. The former head of the Legal Department of the Parliament was detained in July 2024, when he allegedly received 500 dollars from a Russian official.

The case was recently restarted from scratch after the presiding judge, Arina Ialanji, resigned. The new judge assigned to the case is Veaceslav Cernalev.

Over 500 cartridges from the Second World War period were discovered during construction works in the village of Serpeni, Anenii Noi district. The ammunition was removed and destroyed by the National Army sappers, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the ammunition was found by a local resident, and the demining team of the “Codru” Engineer Battalion intervened on the spot. Following the investigation of the terrain, the military identified 502 cartridges of 7.92 mm caliber.

The ammunition was transported and destroyed at the firing range, observing all security measures.

The Ministry of Defense urges citizens that, in the event of the discovery of explosive objects, not to touch them, not to move them and not to try to dismantle or destroy them. Such cases should be immediately reported to the 112 Service or local public authorities.

The General Inspectorate of Police specifies that the report was received through the single 112 service, after the minor left home with his scooter and did not return. Following checks and discussions with locals, the police established that the boy went to the Prut River with other children.

According to preliminary information, the children went into the water to bathe, and at one point the boy was reportedly swept away by the current and disappeared from the sight of those nearby. The minor’s personal belongings, left on the shore before entering the water, were found by the police.
