US official: Possible progress in Transnistrian dialogue, we see positive signs

There are positive signals from Chisinau and Tiraspol that could create premises for progress in the near future in the process of settling the Transnistrian conflict. The statement was made for IPN by the deputy assistant of the US Secretary of State, Christopher Smith.

The American official emphasized that the United States supports a peaceful resolution of the conflict and remains fully committed to supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, which it considers a fundamental principle of its policy in the region.

In the context of the current regional security situation, Christopher Smith mentioned that Washington promotes peace and unity in Europe and supports processes that can lead to the sustainable resolution of conflicts.

Regarding the existing difficulties in the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol, the American official pointed out that the United States has had a constant role in supporting the negotiations, including within the mechanisms supported by the OSCE, as well as through direct dialogue with the Moldovan authorities.

Washington is ready to offer its good offices and the necessary support to relaunch the dialogue, however, the way of advancing the process remains at the discretion of the involved parties.

“My president, President Trump, is a promoter of peace. He has set as a priority for his administration the identification of those areas where the United States can use its influence to advance peace and unity in Europe and globally”, Smith emphasized.

Meteorologists have issued a yellow heatwave warning for this weekend. In most parts of the country, the maximum temperatures will reach +34 degrees Celsius, reports IPN.

The warning is valid for the center, south, and east of the country. Several districts in the north are also under the yellow code. The northernmost districts of the country such as Briceni, Ocnita, Edinet, Drochia, Soroca, Glodeni, Rascani, and Donduseni – are not affected by the warning.

According to the Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, the warning can be updated depending on the evolution of weather phenomena.

During periods of heatwave, authorities recommend people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, to consume enough fluids, and to pay increased attention to children, the elderly, and people with chronic conditions.
