On December 23, President Maia Sandu awarded state distinctions to “people who, through their daily work, contribute to the development of the country”. Among them is also the former president Nicolae Timofti, distinguished with the Order of the Republic through a decree signed on October 10, reports IPN.

“The power of the Republic of Moldova lies, above all, in its people, in those who choose to build, to protect, and to move forward, regardless of difficulties”, the head of state wrote on her Facebook page, accompanying the post with photos from the event.

According to Maia Sandu, the distinguished individuals operate in various fields – culture, education, health, law enforcement, emergency services, sports and public administration – but what unites them is their love for the country.

“Through their constant effort, each one has laid a brick over the years to the foundation of our common good. Today’s distinctions are a recognition of the responsibility, perseverance and vocation with which they have performed their duty”, added the president.
