At least 17 people were injured, 5 of whom are in serious condition, after two local trains collided head-on in Denmark, IPN reports, citing the Danish publication Berlingske.
The accident occurred at 6:30 AM local time, approximately 40 kilometers from Copenhagen. Emergency services reported that there were 38 passengers on board and that there was no need for extrication interventions.
The injured were taken by several ambulances and a helicopter sent by the Danish army, and all the evacuated passengers were transported to an evaluation center. The railway segment is indefinitely closed, as is the nearby road, for the investigation to proceed.
The causes of the accident are not yet known, and the railway operator is investigating how it was possible for two train sets to end up on the same line. The local trains are used by commuters, pupils and students who attend courses in cities other than their hometowns.
