Representatives of the Party of Socialists didn’t show up at the discussions commenced by the Bloc ACUM in the evening of June 6 and in the morning of June 7. Two days ago, the PAS announced it is ready to vote in a Socialist nominee for Speaker, to assume an ACUM Government and to vote the package of anti-oligarchic laws. Later, the PPPDA requested the Socialists to sign a public commitment by which to promise they will vote a Government led by Maia Sandu in the next sitting of Parliament and the package of anti-oligarchic laws.

Groups of people are gathering together in public places in the capital city. On Facebook, Internet users post photos and videos of people who come together near the Gaudeamus Cinema, in the square of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and near the Bridge in Telecentru quarter. These said the people were mobilized by the Democratic Party to protest if the Bloc ACUM forms an alliance with the Party of Socialists. A protest is also mounted in front of the head office of the Party “Action and Solidarity”, where dozens of police officers monitor the situation.

The Parliament Building in the evening of June 7 was surrounded by protesters who chanted “PDM – the people’s party”, “We want stability, not snap elections”, “Maia and Andrei – the people do not believe in tears”.  Dozens of police officers were deployed to the scene and these formed cordons to hamper access to the Parliament Building.

The leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu calls on the supporters of her party to behave calmly and not to expose themselves to dangers in the protests mounted in Chisinau on June 7. She noted the people were mobilized and transported to Chisinau by the Democratic Party and “aggressive people” walk on the streets of the capital city carrying placards in support of the current regime.

Ombudsman Mihail Cotorobai urges the state authorities and the representatives of protesters who demonstrate in the center of Chisinau to ensure the exercise of the freedom of assembly in a peaceful way, excluding any violence. He urges decision makers to monitor the situation so as to prevent the placement of barriers to the access to information by blocking online broadcasts from the events by media outlets and calls on the representatives of the media to be correct and objectives when covering the events, while the protesters not to allow the use of violence against journalists.

As they were awaited by ACUM, Socialist MPs went to talk to the Democratic Party. After the meeting, PSRM representatives said the party took note of the Democrats’ proposals, which would be presented to the Socialist National Council later today. The Democrats also convened their National Council. DA leader Andrei Năstase thinks today is the day we will learn the future of Moldova and its citizens.  In a Facebook post, the politician said today it will become known if the Party of Socialists is going to “do what people want” or enter an alliance with the Democratic Party, which in his opinion will mean “conservation of power and growing poverty”.

It’s been two weeks since President Igor Dodon asked his question, and the Constitutional Court still hasn’t provided an answer as to when exactly the three months’ countdown starts before Parliament can be dissolved: is it the moment MP mandates are validated or the moment when Parliament holds its inaugural sitting? Constitutional scholar Nicolae Osmochescu also noted that there is no such thing as an urgent examination in the legislation. “In fact, the Constitutional Court should reject the request, because everything is already written in the Constitution”, says the expert. In his opinion, the countdown starts from the inaugural meeting, which took place on March 21, meaning that the deadline falls on June 21.

The water in the lake of the Chisinau Park “Valea Morilor” is polluted and a lot of fish dies there. It happens because of the alga that produce oxygen in the process of photosynthesis during the day and consume it at night, causing the death of fish. According to the head of the Chisinau Local Organization of the Ecologist Movement of Moldova Vladimir Garaba, the solution is to clean again the lake or to stop the development of alga and decomposing of organic material by using chemical substances and to install aerators.

The rain that fell during the last few days had beneficial effects on crops, but also caused damage where it was in excess and was accompanied by high winds and hail. Mihail Vronschih, division head at the Research Institute for Field Crops “Selecția”, has told IPN that the measures that should be taken to remedy the long-term effects where there was excessive rain are more important. The precipitation was twice larger than the annual norms and this is good, but there were places where the amount of rain was four or more times larger and caused damage.
