A 26-year-old man has been convicted for online scams through fictitious cryptocurrency transactions, the damage being estimated at over 700 thousand lei. The court fined him 50 thousand lei and deprived him for four years of the right to hold positions involving the administration of money and material goods, reports IPN.
According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, in August 2022, the defendant implemented a fraudulent scheme of trading the USDT cryptocurrency, using the Telegram application. He registered in a specialized group and created fake accounts for selling and buying virtual currency.
In one episode, the young man simulated negotiations between two people, without them knowing about his real role. The victim met with the defendant near the Central Market in Chisinau to carry out the cash exchange, but it was later found that the transfer was directed to another account. The damage caused in a single case exceeded 15 thousand dollars.
The same method was also used in the case of two other victims, and in total, the material damage was estimated at over 700 thousand lei. During the trial, the defendant fully admitted his guilt and reimbursed the victims.
