The alpha-2b interferon will be available again for the patients of the Oncology Institute

Interferon alpha-2b, a drug used in the treatment of certain oncological and hematological conditions, will be available starting Tuesday, September 15, at the Oncology Institute. According to the Ministry of Health, the drug was temporarily unavailable due to the supplier’s failure to fulfill contractual obligations, reports IPN.

MS specifies that interferon alfa-2b has immunomodulatory and antitumor action. At the same time, the preparation is not a first-line treatment for most cancers, being used in certain well-defined clinical situations and exclusively at the indication of the oncologist or hematologist.

At the same time, the authorities mention that the Oncology Institute has apologized to the patients for whom the temporary lack of medication has created difficulties. Furthermore, the Ministry of Health is analyzing the procurement and delivery mechanisms to reduce the risk of similar situations occurring.
