Parents demand stipulating home learning in new Education Code

A group of parents called on the Government to introduce the notion ‘home learning’ for the whole education period in the draft Education Code. They are not satisfied with the knowledge acquired by their children at school and are convinced that they can teach them better at home, following the school program.

In a news conference at IPN, education expert Andrei Munteanu said there are teachers at school who have a discriminatory attitude towards some of the children, while the colleagues can be mean. In such circumstances, the more sensitive children cannot realize their potential, become inhibited and refuse to learn. For them, home learning will be an alternative.

According to the expert, the experience of other states shows that home learning is efficient. The students involved in distance learning get even better knowledge than their mates. At the same time, these children are not deprived of social life as they go to play and become involved in extracurricular activities. If the Ministry of Education institutes home learning, a strategy and training criteria for parents who want to teach their children at home should be worked out.

Ala Starcu, the representative of the Floresti Parents Committee, which is an unregistered organization involving about 1,000 parents, said there should be more possibilities for teaching children at home – either by a parent or a teacher contracted and paid by the parents. This alternative will create competition between the education systems, while the teachers will fulfill their duties more responsibly.

Vitalie Bugaian from Stefan-Voda raises four children together with his wife. The children study at a U.S. schools through distance learning. “I saw the final product of the education system: young people without values, who cannot get a job, do not work and cannot start a business. The schools are educational incubators separated from the reality. We cannot educate the children harmoniously when they study collectively,” he stated.

The new Education Code is to be approved by the Government.
