The Riga legislature has passed a law banning MPs, dignitaries, judges and several security, justice, defense and diplomats from visiting or transiting the territory of the Russian Federation and Belarus. The decision was published on the official website of the Latvian Seimas, IPN reports.
Among the public administration employees who have travel restrictions are police officers, border guards, firefighters, rescuers, migration department, anti-corruption bureau. The restrictions apply to all people who have access to state secrets, as well as those responsible for the security of critical infrastructure facilities.
Latvian officials, targeted by the bans, are not allowed to enter or transit the territory of Russia and Belarus. Violation of the law can result in dismissal. Exceptions will be cases where the travel is for work or humanitarian reasons, but they will have to obtain a special permit.
