The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) has issued a warning advising the population to avoid traveling during torrential rains and to stay in safe places – either inside buildings or in cars, away from trees or electric cables that can be knocked down by the wind, reports IPN.
The warning, also taken up by the central authorities, emphasizes the danger posed by water accumulations on the roadway. Pedestrians are advised not to cross the street between or behind parked vehicles, as due to reduced visibility, they may not be noticed by drivers.
Drivers are urged to avoid parking near trees or electricity poles to prevent potential damage caused by falling objects.
Flooded areas must be avoided even by pedestrians, even in situations where the water level seems insignificant, warns IGSU.
In cases of emergency, citizens can dial the single number 112.
Meteorologists announce heavy rains for Wednesday, October 8th. The yellow code warning for precipitation is valid for the 7th and 8th of October. Water amounts between 15 and 49 l/square meter are forecasted, and in some places even between 50 and 90 l/square meter, which could lead to local flooding and traffic disruption.
