‘God bless Moldova’

US Vice President Joe Biden said during his public speech in Chisinau that Moldova had its own contribution to American society and the American culture, referring in particular to Rahm Emanuel, former Chief of Staff to Barack Obama and current Mayor of Chicago, and actress Natalie Portman, both having Moldovan roots, Info-Prim Neo reports.

US Vice President said that Rahm Emanuel inherited his proverbial purity from his Moldovan grandfather, who became a trade union leader after emigrating to the United States. And Natalie Portman always carries a photo in her wallet of her beloved Moldova-born grandmother.

Joe Biden declared that America shared the Moldovans’ wish to create a democratic, European and prosperous state. He assured that America would assist Moldova on this path, because a successful Moldova would benefit the whole region, Europe and even the United States.

Two of the three people, detained following the searches carried out at the state enterprise Moldatsa, were placed in preventive arrest for 30 days. The third person was placed under house arrest for the same period, reports IPN.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office specifies that the Chisinau Court, Ciocana headquarters, has fully admitted the initiatives regarding the application of preventive measures against two individuals. For the third, the court ordered house arrest, partially admitting the prosecutors’ request. The institution did not specify whether it will challenge the decision.

The three Moldatsa employees were detained at the end of last week, as part of a case of abuse of office. According to the National Anticorruption Center, they are suspected of causing the company significant damage through irregularities in asset management, resource management, and public procurement.

In June, more than 170,000 people received subsidized medications and medical devices prescribed through the “eRețeta” system. For these, the National Health Insurance Company transferred approximately 118 million lei to contracted pharmacies, according to IPN.

Of the total amount, over 110 million lei were spent on reimbursed medications, and the average cost of reimbursed treatments and medical devices per person was 689 lei. The largest portion of expenditures went toward the treatment of circulatory system diseases—approximately 54 million lei for about 126,000 patients.

Approximately 40 million lei were allocated for medical products intended for the treatment of endocrine, nutritional, and metabolic disorders, benefiting more than 76,000 people. At the same time, more than 17,000 people received subsidized medical devices worth more than seven million lei.

CNAM states that reimbursable medications and medical devices can be picked up from pharmacies by presenting an ID card, without the need to present a paper prescription. An electronic prescription can be issued by any doctor, including those in emergency rooms or specialists who provide home care.
