Phone scams amounting to 200,000 lei, carried out by a young man from Chisinau. He is under criminal investigation

A 23-year-old young man from Chisinau is under criminal investigation for involvement in several cases of telephone fraud, through which he allegedly illegally obtained over 200 thousand lei, reports IPN.

According to the General Inspectorate of Police, the suspect allegedly acted in concert with other members of an organized criminal group. They would contact individuals from various regions of the country by phone and, under false pretenses, persuade them to disclose their bank details and unique security codes received via SMS. Subsequently, the suspects would access the victims’ bank accounts and transfer the money to accounts controlled by the network.

According to the investigation, a portion of the embezzled funds would have been used to purchase personal goods, while the rest was directed towards accomplices.

The young man was identified and detained by the officers of the Buiucani Police Department, in collaboration with the prosecutors. If found guilty, the swindler risks up to five years in prison, according to the Penal Code.

The investigations are ongoing, and the authorities continue their actions to identify all individuals involved in the criminal activity.

Children from the diaspora aged 7 to 12 will have the opportunity to discover Chisinau through a series of free educational and creative activities. From August 10 to 15, they will take part in tours of the capital, meetings with writers, and creative workshops organized by the “B. P. Hasdeu” Municipal Library under the auspices of the Chisinau City Hall, according to IPN.

Representatives of the institution note that the “At Home in Chisinau” summer camp offers a captivating journey into the city’s history and culture. Over the course of six days, children will explore iconic sites in the capital and discover legends and stories about Chisinau. The program also includes meetings with artisans, artistic activities, and traditional games.

With the exception of guided tours, all activities will take place at the main branch of the “B.P. Hasdeu” Municipal Library. Registration for the summer camp is open until August 7 and can be completed by filling out the online form.

The first edition, which took place online, was attended by 20 children from Germany, Italy, France, and Ireland.
