Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki, one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, erupted on Saturday morning for the second consecutive day, spewing a column of volcanic materials up to 18 kilometers high into the atmosphere. Nearby villages were covered in ash. So far, no casualties have been reported, according to IPN, citing Associated Press.

A previous eruption, which occurred Friday evening, generated ash clouds that reached up to 10 kilometers in altitude and lit up the night sky with incandescent lava. The two eruptions took place within less than five hours of each other.

The Geological Agency of Indonesia has recorded a pyroclastic cloud avalanche – a mixture of hot gases, rocks, and lava – that descended up to 5 kilometers down the mountain slopes. Authorities have warned that torrential rains could trigger lava flows through the rivers that originate from the volcano area.

According to the Associated Press, Saturday’s eruption is one of the most powerful in Indonesia since 2010, when the Merapi volcano, the most dangerous in the country, erupted on the island of Java, causing the death of over 350 people and forcing the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of residents.

Four political formations would enter Parliament if early elections were to be held next Sunday, according to data from the IMAS socio-political Barometer – July 2026. The Action and Solidarity Party would receive 20.6% of the votes, the Party of Socialists – 14.9%, the “Democratia Acasa” Party – 10.2%, and the “Partidul Nostru” Political Party – 6.5%. At the same time, 27.6% of the respondents declare that they would not vote or that they do not know who they would vote for.

In a press conference at IPN, IMAS Director General Doru Petruti said that although the hierarchy of the parties remains largely unchanged, the survey indicates several changes in voters’ options. According to him, PAS is losing seven percentage points compared to the previous research, and the share of people who are undecided or would not vote is increasing.

Among respondents who expressed a clear voting preference, the results show a larger difference between formations. The Action and Solidarity Party would accumulate 28.5% of the votes, followed by the Party of Socialists – 20.6%, the “Democratia Acasa” Party – 14.1%, the “Partidul Nostru” Political Party – 8.9%, the National Alternative Movement Party – 5.8%, and the Party of Communists and the “Inima Moldovei” Party – each 5.6%. Other political formations would not pass the electoral threshold.

In terms of political sympathies, 21% of respondents mentioned PAS, 15% – PSRM, and 10% – PDA. At the same time, PAS also records the highest level of rejection: 51.5% of respondents say they would not vote for this formation. This is followed by PSRM, with 13.5%, and the Communist Party, with 10.2%.

Doru Petruti asserts that PAS maintains a reserve of voters who could be mobilized by the election, however, the party is experiencing an increase in anti-rating. According to the sociologist, the proportion of those who declare they would never vote for PAS has increased compared to previous studies, when it was around 40%.

The socio-political barometer IMAS was conducted during the period of July 10-20, on a sample of 1,015 individuals from 81 localities. The maximum margin of error is ±3.1%. The research was commissioned by Independent News (Romania).

The 9-year-old child who disappeared in Ungheni was found drowned in the Prut river. According to the General Inspectorate of Police, the lifeless body of the minor was found approximately three kilometers from the place where he would have entered the water, reports IPN.

The police were alerted on Tuesday after the boy left home with his scooter and did not return. Upon checking, it was established that he had gone to the Prut River with other children. At one point, the minor is believed to have been swept away by the strong currents of the water and disappeared from the sight of those nearby.

Police officers and rescuers participated in the search operation, coordinated by the crisis cell activated at the Ungheni Police Inspectorate.
