A passenger who arrived by plane from Milan, Italy, was documented at Chisinau International Airport after failing to declare to the customs authorities of the Republic of Moldova the goods he was carrying in his luggage. Upon inspection, it was found that he had tried to illegally bring into the country about 40 pieces of jewelry, as well as a similar number of scarves, presumed to be products of renowned brands, reports IPN.
According to the Customs Service, the passenger – a 51-year-old Ukrainian citizen – chose the green “Nothing to Declare” lane and told the customs officers that he was not carrying goods that required declaration.
The discovered goods were seized, to be subjected to an expertise for determining their authenticity and value. Depending on the conclusions of the expertise and the court’s decision, they may be confiscated, and the passenger risks being fined.
In accordance with current legislation, individuals may bring into the Republic of Moldova, without the obligation to declare, only personal jewelry, up to a maximum of five pieces, regardless of value, provided that these are not identical.
