Yet another hoax bomb threat sent to Chisinau City Hall

Another anonymous bomb threat has been made to the Chisinau City Hall today. The police carried out checks, as required by the protocol, to find no explosives in the end.

This is the fourth false bomb sent to the Chisinau City Hall this week alone, after two incidents on Wednesday, and another one on Thursday.

According to the Interior Ministry, hoax bomb threats have surged in the last three months, with more than 120 instances recorded in July alone. Apart from the City Hall, frequent targets include the Chisinau Airport and courtrooms. The Ministry has recently proposed toughening penalties for such offenses, with imprisonment terms to rise up to 12 years.

The 400 kV Overhead Power Line from Vulcanesti to Chisinau has been energized up to the Chisinau Power Station. According to the Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, the final tests and checks are to follow before the line is put into commercial operation, reports IPN.

“Putting it under tension allows us to test the operation of the entire route, the protection equipment, the control systems, and the behavior of the installations under real operating conditions. This project is not just about 157 kilometers of power line. It means the possibility of directly transporting energy from Romania to the center of the Republic of Moldova, without the vulnerabilities of the old infrastructure”, declared Dorin Junghietu.

Previously, the Minister of Energy made a visit to the Chisinau Power Station to check the results of the technical tests carried out last week and the preparations for the next stage. He discussed with representatives of the contractor Electromontaj SA, the consulting company overseeing the works, and the operator of the electric power transmission system, Moldelectrica.
