The municipal budget for the year 2026 was approved by the Chisinau Municipal Council with the vote of 27 councilors. Members of the Action and Solidarity Party faction abstained, citing a lack of transparency in presenting the details of the project and the proposals previously put forward by councilors, reports IPN.

According to the approved document, the municipal budget revenues are estimated at 9.6 billion lei, of which approximately 4.9 billion lei are transfers from the state budget. The planned expenses amount to 10.8 billion lei, and the budget deficit is estimated at 1.2 billion lei. The project is also to be voted on in the second reading.

So far, the municipality has been operating on a provisional budget, in the context of disputes and divergences between the factions within the Municipal Council regarding the approval of the document. Similar situations have occurred before: in 2024, the municipal budget was only approved in July, after several failed voting attempts, and in 2025 the capital operated on a provisional budget.
