A video showing how Vasile Costiuc, a candidate for mayor of Chisinau, hits the guard of a hotel at a parking lot in the capital city, have been circulated in the public space. The incident allegedly happened at the beginning of August, IPN reports.

Then, Vasile Costiuc was heading for the head office of the Party “Democracy at Home” which he leads. While looking for a parking place, he removed the obstacle that limited access to the parking lot. The guard intervened and Costiuc got out of the minibus and hit him for several times.

Contacted by IPN, press officer of the Chisinau Police Division Natalia Stati confirmed that such a case was recorded and measures are being taken to establish all the circumstances of the incident.

Vasile Costiuc told the press that he is against aggressiveness and admitted that he acted incorrectly. He said that after he hit the guard, he returned together with a mate of his to apologize, but the man asked for money from him. Therefore, he decided that the police should examine this case.

Vasile Costiuc, who was recently registered as a contender for the mayoralty of Chisinau, is investigated in a criminal case concerning the illegal sale of lots of land by the Durlești mayor’s office. In January 2023, he was arrested and then set free.

Officials of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office told IPN that the criminal case is handled by the National Anticorruption Center and the APO’s administration. Vasile Costiuc was charged, but no preventive measures were taken against him.
