In the Republic of Moldova, an informational system will be created that will centralize all data regarding international sanctions, which the state will apply, including lists of targeted individuals and companies, current restriction regimes, and mechanisms for reporting potential violations. The platform’s concept was approved by the Government, reports IPN.

The concept of the system was developed by the State Chancellery, together with the Electronic Governance Agency, and aims to strengthen the mechanisms for implementing and monitoring international sanctions in the Republic of Moldova. The authorities claim that the new platform will simplify the checks carried out by institutions, banks, and economic agents, and will allow online reporting of attempts to evade sanctions.

Currently, the record of sanctions is managed through the National List of International Restrictions Subjects, available on the government platform date.gov.md. The list includes over 5,600 sanctioned subjects, of which nearly 4,000 are individuals, over 1,600 are entities, and 40 are vessels. The platform is used by authorities, citizens, and companies to verify the individuals and entities targeted by international sanctions.

The authorities, however, argue that the current mechanism no longer fully meets the needs of institutions and users, as information is scattered across multiple platforms, and the system does not allow efficient interconnection with the authorities’ databases or digital management of requests.

The new system will consolidate into a single platform the list of active sanction regimes, the national list of sanctioned persons and entities, the electronic forms for requesting exceptions, and the online mechanisms for reporting violations or attempts to evade international restrictive measures.

For the development and implementation of the system, expenses of approximately one million lei were estimated.
