The Vice President of the Orhei district, socialist Mihail Paciu, has been detained, suspected of kidnapping and assault. The Socialist Party accuses an attempt at “intimidation” by the ruling party, on the eve of the new local elections for the position of mayor of the city of Orhei.

“Such actions indicate the formation of a dangerous practice, in which law enforcement bodies are used as a tool of political struggle, especially on the eve of the early elections for the position of mayor of Orhei municipality, scheduled for May 17,” is mentioned in a public reaction of the PSRM.

Contacted by IPN, the press officer of the General Inspectorate of Police, Cristina Ababii, specified that on March 31, police officers from Orhei registered a case of kidnapping, assault and coercion of a person, under threat of a weapon. “As part of the procedural-criminal actions undertaken, on April 14, a person was detained for 72 hours,” Ababii mentioned.

The Socialists have called for a transparent and objective examination of the case, as well as for the investigations to be carried out without political pressure. The formation mentioned that it will monitor the situation’s evolution and will use all legal mechanisms to defend its representative.

Contacted by IPN, representatives of the Action and Solidarity Party stated that the law enforcement agencies must investigate the case, emphasizing that all citizens are equal before the law.
