The export price of cherries from Moldova, double compared to the average of the last three years

Last year, the Republic of Moldova exported 4700 tons of cherries at a price double the average of the last 3 years. The amount raised was 8.1 million dollars, estimated the economic expert Veaceslav Ionita, reports IPN.

The revenues are over 3 times higher than those obtained in 2024. The expert pointed out that a decisive factor in the increase in revenues was the strong demand from the European Union, especially from Poland and Romania.

“Previously, 98% of exports were oriented towards the CIS area, but now 75% of exports are directed towards the EU market. This structural change has decisively contributed to the increase in export revenues,” the expert mentioned.

The economist asserts that a turning point for the sector was when exports surpassed domestic consumption. Out of the total production of 8700 tons, 4700 tons, that is 55%, were exported, marking a significant shift in the economic model of this agricultural segment.

Tatiana Nistorica has been released from her position as Secretary of State for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. A decision in this regard was approved on Wednesday by the Government, at the proposal of Minister Radu Musteata, reports IPN.

At the presentation of the proposal for dismissal, the new Minister of Agriculture did not provide details regarding the reasons for the decision. The procedure had been initiated earlier by the former minister Ludmila Catlabuga, following the arrest of the Secretary of State in a corruption case.

Tatiana Nistorică was detained and placed under arrest in a corruption case, in which a representative of a business entity is also being investigated. According to law enforcement, the entrepreneur allegedly offered money to influence the decisions of the National Agency for Food Safety regarding the resumption of fodder imports from Ukraine, which had previously been suspended due to the detection of irregularities.
