Wetlands in 15 districts, along the Dniester basin, will be restored by planting 1,800 hectares of forests and restoring ecosystems for natural water filtration. In Chisinau, the “Restoration of ecosystems to prevent marine pollution – RE-MAP” project was launched, implemented by the World Bank, aimed at improving environmental quality, reports IPN.

The project aims to restore degraded ecosystems and protect water resources in the Dniester basin. In addition to planting 1,800 hectares of forests, silvopastoral management plans will be developed for approximately 10,000 hectares of land.

The initiative will be implemented over the next four years, in collaboration with international partners. Funding is provided through a grant of 7.9 million dollars offered by the Global Environment Fund.

According to the Ministry of Environment, the interventions will contribute to the protection of water resources, reduction of pollution, and improvement of people’s quality of life.

The bridge over the Tigheci river in the town of Cania, Cantemir district, will undergo major repairs. The National Road Administration has signed the contract for the execution of the works, worth almost 21 million lei. According to the institution, the bridge requires interventions after a long period of use and is in an inappropriate technical condition, reports IPN.

The bridge is located on the regional road G132 R35-Baimaclia-Taraclia de Salcie-R32 and provides access for over 2,800 inhabitants of the village of Cania, as well as for the traffic in the area. The works are planned for a period of nine months and envisage the complete rehabilitation of the structure, so that it meets the current road safety requirements.

The project includes the reinforcement of supporting elements, the replacement of degraded components, the installation of new beams and supports, as well as the installation of waterproofing systems, drainage, expansion joints, and metal railings. Also, sections of approximately 25 meters of roadway will be repaired on each of the two access ramps.

The bridge has a length of over 62 meters and a width of 13.5 meters. It will have two traffic lanes, guide lanes, and sidewalks for pedestrians.

The lawyers of the Gagauz bashkan, Evghenia Gutul, have challenged the decision of the Central Court of Appeal at the Supreme Court of Justice, which upheld her seven-year prison sentence. The appeal also targets the sentence of Svetlana Popan, who was sentenced to six years of detention, reports IPN.

According to the information published on the CSJ page, the appeal was registered on July 27. The case was assigned to a panel of judges, who are to examine the appeal and decide on the request made by the lawyers.

Evghenia Gutul and Svetlana Popan were convicted on August 5, 2025, for complicity in the illegal financing of a political party and an electoral competitor. Prosecutors claim that the deeds took place between 2019-2022, when Gutul was the secretary of the Sor Party, declared unconstitutional in 2023.

Guțul has rejected the accusations, asserting that she committed no illegalities and that, at the time of the alleged acts, she held a position without decision-making power in the party. She described the sentence as being “harsh” and stated that the case would have a political component.

At the end of May, the Central Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters.
