Russia’s attacks are not accidents, but deliberate actions to leave Moldova in the dark. The statement was made by President Maia Sandu, who accuses Russia of deliberately trying to undermine the state’s security and endanger the lives of citizens, in the context of new attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, reports IPN.
“Russia is no longer limiting itself to energy blackmail, involvement in elections, activating criminal groups for destabilization, and spreading false propaganda, but is constantly attacking Ukraine’s infrastructure and, increasingly, endangering the security and health of Moldovans”, Maia Sandu noted.
Maia Sandu recalled the bombing of a hydroelectric plant in Ukraine, which led to the pollution of the Nistru river and affected the water supply in several northern districts. According to the president, a new attack last night caused the disconnection of the Isaccea-Vulcanesti power line, which covers a significant part of the country’s energy consumption. “The system is working, but it is under enormous pressure”, the president stated.
Maia Sandu has called for solidarity and responsibility, urging citizens to conserve energy and to get informed from official sources. “Even if Russia wants us weak, it depends on us to remain strong”, emphasized Maia Sandu.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu presents, in an extraordinary session of the Parliament, the project regarding the establishment of a state of emergency in the energy sector for 60 days.
