Stefan Gorda is set to be appointed as the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Jana Costachi – to Ireland. Following the positive endorsement of their candidacies by the Parliament’s Foreign Policy and European Integration Committee, they are to be officially submitted for approval, IPN reports.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that the appointment of the new ambassadors reflects the Republic of Moldova’s commitment to strengthening its international presence by promoting national interests and reinforcing bilateral relations.

“The selected ambassadors are professionals with vast experience, capable of representing the Republic of Moldova with dignity and efficiency in their countries of residence and contributing to the deepening of our country’s diplomatic and economic relations,” emphasized Mihai Popsoi, as quoted in a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Stefan Gorda has held leadership positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has represented the Republic of Moldova as ambassador to the Czech Republic, the Holy See, as well as in Bulgaria, Albania, and North Macedonia. The diplomat has also held positions in public administration, serving as an advisor to the Prime Minister and a State Counselor to the President. Between 2020 and 2022, he was the Director of the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is currently serving as a Minister-Counselor at the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Ukraine.

Jana Costachi has over 15 years of experience in public administration and international organizations, specializing in the development and implementation of public policies. Her areas of expertise include human rights, public order and security, migration flow management, bilateral agreement negotiations, and combating forced labor. She has held the position of State Secretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. Additionally, she has worked as an international expert for organizations such as the International Labour Organization, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development, and the World Bank.

The two appointed ambassadors will be able to begin their duties after completing all legal procedures, including appointment by government decision and presidential decree.
