Starting from February 24th, the USA imposes temporary customs duties of 10% for all countries. The measure also targets the Republic of Moldova. The announcement about the application of global taxes was made by the American president, Donald Trump, reports IPN.

The decision comes after the US Supreme Court ruled on Friday that a large portion of the customs duties announced by Donald Trump in April 2025 are illegal. The White House leader criticized the court’s decision. He announced that he will sign an order for a global increase in tariffs by 10%, based on Section 122 of the Trade Act.

The provision allows for the imposition of a temporary surcharge on imports, to correct major imbalances in the balance of payments or other fundamental problems with international payments. Tariffs cannot exceed 15% and can be applied for a maximum of 150 days. This is the first time an American president has invoked this section.

The White House clarified that Mexico and Canada will be exempted, based on the North American trade pact. Also, critical minerals, pharmaceutical products, certain electronic equipment, and several food products, including tomatoes, oranges, and beef, will not be taxed.

Short-term rains, lightning and strong winds are forecast in the center and south of the country. Meteorologists have issued a yellow code of atmospheric instability, valid until 11:00 PM, IPN reports.

According to the Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring Authority, isolated amounts of precipitation could reach 45 liters per square meter, and wind gusts could reach 54-72 kilometers per hour.

In this context, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations recommends that citizens avoid open spaces during the storm and not take shelter under trees or near unstable objects. People are urged to disconnect electrical appliances during intense lightning and not to cross flooded road sections.

Meteorologists have issued yellow and orange codes for several sectors of the Dniester and Prut rivers, due to low flow rates. The warning is valid for the period July 22-28 and also targets most of the small rivers in the country, where in some sectors even the red code has been established, reports IPN.

According to the Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, the yellow code is established on the Naslavcea-Dubasari sector of the Nistru river, where the flow rate is 35-40% of the multiannual monthly average. On the Dubasari-Tudora sector, the orange code is in effect, with the flow rate estimated at only 25-30% of the usual values for this period.

The yellow code is valid on the Criva-Ungheni sector of the Prut River, where the water flow represents 30-40% of the multiannual monthly average. On the Ungheni-Branza sector, an orange code is instituted, with values of 25-30% of the multiannual monthly average.

The situation is similar on the smaller rivers as well. On Raut and Bac, the yellow code is in effect, as the flow is approximately 35% of the normal values. On Ciulucul Mic and Ichel, the orange code is instituted, because the flows are at a maximum of 30% of the multiannual average.

Also, a red code is in effect for the Vilia, Draghiste, Cubolta, Cainar and Botna rivers, where the flows have dropped to approximately 10% of the multi-annual monthly average values.
