The suspension of visas does not affect US-Moldova relations, but immigrants, Ambassador Kulminski

The halt of the US immigration visa issuance process does not affect the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and the US and has a limited impact on Moldovan citizens, says the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in Washington, Vladislav Kulminski. According to him, only those people who are moving to live in the US are affected, in the case of Moldovan citizens, we are talking about a few dozen people, reports IPN.

According to Kulminski, already issued immigration visas remain valid, and applications can still be submitted and scheduled. Only the actual issuance of visas is temporarily halted until the review is completed. “The decision only targets those who are moving to live in the US and is intended to limit the use of social resources,” the diplomat mentioned. Other types of visas – travel, student, work, and others – will continue to be issued as usual.

Our relationship with the USA remains as strong as ever. We have a busy agenda for this year, which includes bilateral visits, trade, cooperation in the energy sector,” specified Ambassador Kulminski.

The State Department has made public the list of 75 countries to which, from January 21, the decision to suspend visas will be applied. Among the countries on the list are the Republic of Moldova, Georgia, Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Belarus etc.
