The authorities in Romania announced on Tuesday that the fire that broke out on a Turkish-flagged commercial ship, loaded with liquefied gas, has been extinguished. The ship caught fire on Monday in the Ukrainian port of Ismail, following a drone attack launched by Russian forces. As a result, the Romanian authorities have decided to lift the evacuation measures of the Ceatalchioi and Plauru localities in Tulcea county, reports IPN.
Ukrainian emergency and intervention services have been continuously active throughout the past night in the Ismail port to extinguish the fire. A high-capacity ship was brought to the scene, and it pumped water onto the tanks of the affected ship, thus contributing to the reduction of the risk of a possible explosion.
Following the risk analysis, the authorities have decided to lift the evacuation order for the village of Ceatalchioi. Therefore, the 231 residents who self-evacuated or were evacuated with the support of law enforcement can now return to their homes.
After the oil tanker was damaged on Monday due to the Russian army’s drone attacks, the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs within the Turkish Government announced that all 16 Turkish crew members on board had safely evacuated from the ship, with no casualties or injuries reported.
