Three witnesses, forcibly brought to the court hearing in the case of the former mayor Ciochina

Three witnesses were forcibly brought to the court hearing held on Wednesday in the case of the former mayor of Boldurești village, Nicanor Ciochina, accused of causing the fatal accident of a teenager. The information was confirmed for IPN by the spokesperson of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes, Emil Gaitur.

The measure was ordered after several previous sessions were postponed, as the defendant’s lawyers did not ensure the presence of witnesses.

According to PCCOCS, the process is currently at the stage of hearing the evidence presented by the defense. The defendant Nicanor Ciochină is still under the prohibition of leaving his place of residence, being under judicial control.

The criminal case in which the former mayor is accused was sent for examination to the Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, on May 29, 2024. Previously, the court repeatedly imposed fines on the defenders for non-attendance at meetings. For the same reason, at the request of the prosecutors, public defenders were appointed.

The fatal accident occurred in February of last year. Prosecutors claim that the car driven by Nicanor Ciochina, then mayor of Bolduresti, was allegedly speeding, crossed into the oncoming lane, and hit a 14-year-old boy from behind, who was moving in accordance with the rules. Subsequently, the driver is said to have left the scene of the accident and sought the help of an acquaintance from the Nisporeni district to cover up the traces.

The National Agency for Energy Regulation will examine on Friday the request from Energocom regarding the increase in natural gas prices. The subject was included on the agenda of the ANRE meeting on July 24, reports IPN.

Energocom has requested an increase in the regulated price for consumers connected to low-pressure distribution networks from 13.35 lei to 19.37 lei per cubic meter, excluding VAT.

The request is motivated by the increase in natural gas procurement costs, against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the volatility of international markets. According to Energocom, these have generated an estimated tariff deficit of around 106 million lei.
