Romania is restarting seven hydroelectric power plants considered strategic, through the approval of a bill that unlocks investments in these objectives. The Minister of Energy in Bucharest, Bogdan Ivan, stated that the seven hydroelectric plants will add capacities of 214 MW of secure energy to the Romanian energy system, reports IPN.
“Secure and clean energy produced in Romania, jobs and long-term energy stability”, wrote the minister on his Facebook page, emphasizing that it is an important step towards the country’s energy independence.
The works will resume at the hydroelectric power plants: Rastolita – 35.3 MW; Bumbesti-Livezeni – 65.2 MW; Surduc-Siriu (Nehoiasu) – 55 MW; Pascani (Siret) – 9.4 MW, Cerna-Belareca – 14.7 MW, Cornetu-Avrig / Caineni – 26.5 MW and Cerna Motru-Tismana II (Vaja Dam) – 8 MW.
The Republic of Moldova imports over 80% of its required electricity. Of the total purchases made by Energocom in September, 64.65% were carried out through bilateral contracts with suppliers and producers from Romania and Ukraine, while the remaining 16.2% were made through the trading platforms Romanian Commodities Exchange and OPCOM, the designated operator of the electricity and natural gas market in Romania. In total, Energocom purchased approximately 322,900 MWh of electricity in September, at an average weighted price of 113.96 euros/MWh.
