The roads in Dereneu village of Călărași district became impassable and many of the domestic yards were flooded after the May 19 rain. The heavy rain in Donici and Camenca villages of Orhei district damaged 0.1 km or local roads and swamped the gardens in about 60 private homes. In Dondușeni district, a number of villages were affected. In Arionești village, the roofs of two granaries were seriously damaged and the levees of four ponds were destroyed.

As many as 120 ha of corn in Dondușeni village and the protection levees of two ponds in Parcova were damaged. In Târnova and Elizavetovca, 30 ha of crops were affected. In Sângerei district, the rain destroyed 100 ha of crops.

The encounter between Petrocub and Milsami played in Hâncești was interrupted in the first half because of the torrential rain.

A solidarity march entitled “I’m Ok”, which brought together members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/transsexual and intersex community (LGBT) and their supporters, was mounted on Chisinau on May 19. The General Police Inspectorate said the solidarity march was held without major incidents.

The portal to enroll children at the kindergarten (egradinita.md) became the fourth most popular electronic public service in Moldova. Acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu said 13 million lei was allocated for preschool education institutions in 2015, but the 2018 municipal budget was four time higher. Repair works last year were performed in 110 kindergartens. By September 1 this year, there will be revamped kindergartens No. 48, 3, 198, 112 and 166. Also, 1,800 new places will be created in admission taxes this year.

In a news conference at IPN, Traian Băsescu said the parties in the current Moldovan parliament “have a fundamental duty” to agree on a government, as holding snap elections will not change anything. Speaking as a leader of the Romanian People’s Movement Party, Băsescu stated that parties which fail to produce governments in reasonable amounts of time regardless of the concessions involved “have nothing in common with respecting a country’s interests, with patriotism even”. “I can not believe that parties have emerged that seem not to care about the fact that the country doesn’t have a government. We keep hearing them utter this nonsense – let’s have snap elections. And what will be the outcome? The same!”, he added.

The former Romanian president Traian Băsescu has urged fellow citizens in Moldova to go out and vote in the EU parliamentary election this Sunday. “If Moldovan citizens that are also Romanian citizens cast their ballots, they will be important for the parties and the parties will include this portfolio of votes of Moldovan origin in their government programs. If they ignore the election, the parties will treat this as an insignificant portfolio of votes and will not do what needs to be done for Moldova”, Băsescu, a honorary president of the Poeple;s Movement Party, told a press conference in Chisinau.

Representatives of the now-defunct Banca de Economii (BEM), standing in the Ilan Shor case as the injured party, has been requested to provide additional documents to assist a court-ordered financial expert investigation. Iulian Balan, a lawyer for the businessman-turned-politician, has declined to comment, citing the confidentiality of judicial proceedings, as has been customary throughout the case’s examination by the Cahul tribunal. The next court sitting has been slated for June 26.

First and second class tickets for the Chisinau-Odessa train will become more expensive beginning this Friday due to rising fuel prices and foreign currency fluctuations. A first class trip will cost 195 lei, compared to the current 164 lei; and a second class trip will cost 180 lei, compared to 159 lei today. The third class fare remains unchanged at 151 lei.
