In the Republic of Moldova, almost 60% of the deaths are due to heart diseases. Malignant tumors last year caused 16.5% of the deaths, while the digestive system diseases – over 9%. About 6% of the deaths were due to accidents, poisoning and traumas.

In a meeting with Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn held in Brussels, Prime Minister Pavel Filip pleaded for the consolidation of the political dialogue, intensification of cooperation at expert level and resumption of the financial assistance. The two officials conferred on the reforms done by the Moldovan authorities and the implementation level of the Moldova – EU Association Agreement.

The executive president of the National Unity Party Anatol Șalaru does not rule out the possibility that a ruling alliance between the Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists will be formed this week or next week. “We will follow a dead-end track and there will be blockage on the part of the European Union,”  he stated Anatol Șalaru. The politician noted it will be now easier to achieve the Union desideratum in Moldova as the people will realize that all the attempts made in other directions will fail.

The President may not propose a prime ministerial candidate without a Parliament that has its leadership elected. The impossibility of Parliament to assemble in the absence of a body to convene it renders the President incapable of making the nomination. This is what the Constitutional Court decided in response to a request for constitutional interpretation from the President’s Office. The CC held that the President may still consult with parliamentary groups to pick a candidate irrespective of whether a Parliament leadership exists. However the duty of making the nomination is strictly conditioned on the existence of a Speaker as a “partner of institutional dialog”.

President Igor Dodon will dissolve Parliament and set a date for snap legislative elections if the legislature fails to elect a Speaker and other leadership by the middle of June. He said he regretted the political blockage seen in Parliament. He stressed that he didn’t consider snap elections a good outcome for Moldova, as it involved investment and budgetary risks, as well as the risk of delaying local elections.

Some 523,000 pensioners have incomes below the minimum consumer basket, according to the Moldovan Union of Pensioners. During a press conference, representatives of the organization demanded that the government “takes measures” or face protests. Fellow member Maria Talpă urged officials to visit the marketplace and see what pensioners can afford to put in their baskets. She personally has spent her 1,100 pensions on medicines and utility bills, and whatever is left she has to penny-pinch on food.

Moldova does not have reintegration policies and thus confronts contradictory discussions, stated security expert Rosian Vasiloi. According to him, there are forces in Moldova, Ukraine, the left side of the Nistru, the Russian Federation that fully benefit from thE status quo of non-settled Transnistrian conflict. He noted very technical subjects are now discussed, but they should conceptually discuss the reintegration of the Republic of Moldova.

As regards the annulment of the police record on his involvement in election-day campaigning during the mayoral elections in Chisinau, Andrei Năstase said this is apparently good news. “On the other hand, it distances the moment when I could go to the European Court of Human Rights,” he stated. As to the upcoming local elections, the politician noted these elections cannot be called because Parliament is not functional and this wasn’t made functional for this reason - so that it could not announce the elections.
