President Dodon gives Parliament a month to elect leadership or face dissolution

President Igor Dodon will dissolve Parliament and set a date for snap legislative elections if the legislature fails to elect a Speaker and other leadership by the middle of June. This was announced at a meeting with foreign ambassadors accredited in Chisinau.

The President’s Office quotes Igor Dodon as saying that he regretted the political blockage seen in Parliament. He stressed that he didn’t consider snap elections a good outcome for Moldova, as it involved investment and budgetary risks, as well as the risk of delaying local elections.

On a different subject, Igor Dodon announced that on May 29 he would travel to Kazahstan’s capital Nur-Sultan to attend the Eurasian Union Summit. During June 6-8, he will attend a Economic Forum in Saint Petersburg, and on June 21 he will go to Minsk to watch the Second European Games’ opening ceremony.
