The Central Election Commission on March 3 approved the official report on the final results of the parliamentary elections of February 24 and is to remit it to the Constitutional Court that has five days to validate or invalidate the elections.
Snap elections would be avoided even if this is one of solutions suggested by voters, considers IPN News Agency director Valeriu Vasilică. Of the three heavyweight winners, the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) seems to be the most forceful one with 30 seats of MP, even if it has by with five seats fewer than the Party of Socialists (PSRM) (35). Such a conclusion can be reached if we analyze the post-electoral behavior of the heavyweight winners, as the PDM, not the PSRM was the first to invite to discussions on the formation of the future government coalition. At the same time, the electoral bloc ACUM (NOW) PAS DA wants to leave the impression that it is not interested in any post-electoral scenario for coming to power.
Why do the heavyweight winners behave like this? Answers to this question were already made public by the given political players, but a part of the answers can be deduced, stated Valeriu Vasilică.
Political pundit Dionis Cenușa, in an analytical article for IPN Agency, names the four major challenges for the bloc NOW, whose administration can open new "window of opportunity" or, on the contrary, limit oppositions’ actions and impact. To begin with, the political scientist thinks that the bloc NOW needs to decide if it wants to influence the government process or has already decided that it will hold the opposition role in parliament. The difficulty of such a decision depends on the success of the Democrats of establishing a coalition with the Shor Party, the three independent candidates, and the necessarily at least 11 representatives of the Socialists, explains Dionis Cenusa.
The financial results reported by banks show a stable situation in the sector. According to “Expert Grup”, the quality indicators of assets continue to improve. The nonperforming loans represented about 12.15%, with oscillations on the 4.4-31% segment depending on the bank. At individual level, all the banks reported profit for January. Collectively, the profit came to 215.5 million lei.
Five years have passed since the adoption of the law that allows private health facilities, together with the public ones, to transfer human cells, including stem cells, but this does not yet happen. The law adopted in 2014 is not implemented as there are no mechanisms for authorizing, monitoring and examining the process. Asked by IPN to comment, Transplant Agency director Igor Codreanu said a number of actions were taken meanwhile. Dozens of persons working in the transplantation and organ and tissue donation sectors were trained as part of a twinning project to the value of €1.2 million. During the related activities, shortcomings were identified in the management of other components, such as reproductive medicine and in vitro fertilization.
Orthodox Christians on March 4 enter the White Week, which is the week preceding Lent. Contacted by IPN, priest Eugen Onikov, of the Chisinau Church “Saint Pantelimon”, said the faithful should start fasting gradually. On March 3, they could eat meat and fish, but this week, until March 11, they should eat only milk products, cheese and eggs.
Temperatures are expected to rise. The State Hydrometeorological Service forecasts spring temperatures for the next few day. On March 5, the temperatures during the day will oscillate between +14 and +16 degrees Celsius. It will be as warm the next day, on Wednesday.
