Briefness first and foremost – October 16, 2018 IPN digest

The president of honor of the Democratic Party Dumitru Diacov in the program “Truth live” said the PDM will form part of the parliamentary majority and he sees no problem if the PDM after the parliamentary elections will sit at the negotiating table with any party that will gain the people’s vote.

With any party? In connection with this, the IPN Experts said Dumitru Diacov’s statements confirm that the essence of political centrism resides in the openness to any combination, either with the political right or with the political left. In Romania, the parties with such strategic options are called hinges. In specialized literature, the parties of this kind are called catch-all.

The problem is that such behavior has an impact on the PDM’s recent effort to amend the Constitution. The PDM is now trying to persuade the parliamentary pro-European groups of the right to support the enshrining of the European integration course in the Constitution, while the given groups oppose or hesitate. The reason for hesitation is evident. What’s the use of declaring itself a center-left party when the PDM actually admits that it promotes policies of the right? What’s the use of admitting that the official language from scientific viewpoint is Romanian if it’s suitable for the PDM to consider it Moldovan from practical viewpoint? What’s the use of setting in 2009 the goal of ending the political war if the PDM from practical viewpoint liquidated all of its former allies that accepted its coalition forming rules? What’s the use of announcing the finding of the stolen US$ 1 billion a priority when, in practical terms, three prime ministers, two of whom signed the Government’s guarantees for covering the loans released to the robbed banks and one made the repayment of the money the people’s burden through the assumption of responsibility, are members of the current government controlled by the PDM? Finally, the parliamentary remains of the pro-European parties wonder – what’s the use of enshrining the European integration in the Constitution on the PDM’s initiative if, in practical terms, the PDM will promote the policies that suit it so as to remain in power?

As the manners of our political class are well-known in Brussels, the EU will work with Moldova and the other EaP countries, in particular in the areas of judicial reform and ensuring an enabling environment for civil society and independent media. According to the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said the Eastern Partnership is a key component of the EU’s foreign policy and the Ministerial meeting was an important moment to review not only the different bilateral relations, but also the common work done within the Eastern Partnership framework. “We are delivering not only economic benefits, such as increased trade volumes between all six partner countries and the European Union, but also strengthening democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms. We need to keep pressing ahead with implementation if we are to continue to see good results,” stated Federica Mogherini.

No matter how wise the appraisals coming from outside are, it is important to start domestically a complete and profound re-setting of the Republic of Moldova. The current government will not remain long in power, executive director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives Vlad Kulminski stated in the talk show “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel.

In this connection, referring to the theft of the US$ 1 billion, economic expert Sergiu Tofilat said Moldovan society should seek penalties for the corrupt regime and the persons who serve this regime from the foreign partners.

By the way, on October 15 it was three years of the arrest of Vlad Filat. Even is some would like to make him to blame for the banking fraud, the ex-Premier was sentenced to nine years in jail for abuse of power and passive corruption. In the talk show “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel, lawyer Victor Munteanu said Filat was tried neither for theft, nor for misappropriation of property. The loans raised from the three banks involved in the theft cannot be found in the case in which the former Premier was convicted.

Meanwhile, the Party of Socialists is preparing to mount a large-scale protest in Chisinau on November 18 and expects tens of thousands of citizens to take part in it. The protest will be against the past nine years of governance. In the event, the party will present its political program and actions that will be taken until February 24, when parliamentary elections will take place.

Instead, no one will protest against building a sheep milk cheese factory on the territory of the Cimișlia Industrial Park. Mayor of Cimișlia town Gheorghe Răileanu said they broadly breed sheep in Cimișlia region and the sale of sheep milk cheese can be a profitable business. A factory will provide jobs and will help develop local infrastructure.

The same refers to the reserve “Plaiul Fagului” where an environmental information and education center called “Rădenii Vechi” was inaugurated. The center will contribute to promoting forest ecotourism in cooperation with the local community. There will be opened tourist routes for the winter season and built a cycle track, while the recreation areas around the lakes will be laid out. The center was reconstructed and created with the support of the Polska Pomoc Project of Poland.
