The Law governing the Prosecutor General’s Office is not working, as the Prosecutor General is serving the interests of the government, considers a group of ACUM/PAS&DA lawmakers who initiated public consultations over a series of amendments to the Law. According to MP Sergiu Litvinenco, the prosecution system has had some long-overdue items on its reform agenda since as far back as 1995. ACUM intends to redress that by proposing seven key provisions. One that stands out is a provision allowing a non-citizen, for example a European professional, to be appointed as Prosecutor General.

Expert of the Institute for European Policies and Reforms Mihai Mogâldea said the poor result achieved in last Sunday’s elections by the “Pro Romania” Party, on whose ticket ex-prime minister Iurie Leancă ran, shows the Moldovan politician does not enjoy big popularity among the voters and cannot secure votes for a Romanian party. Even if someone of the party’s leadership concedes their seat of MEP to him, Iurie Leancă will represent not the Republic of Moldova, but the political family of which he forms part.

Expert in political sciences Anatol Țăranu said the European Parliament elections for which polling stations were established in Moldova marked the political life in Romania and in Moldova as well. According to him, the fact that a large number of Moldovans with Romanian passports voted in these elections is a signal addressed also to the national political classes. Anatol Țăranu noted a new political force is needed on the political arena in Moldova. This new force could form based on the pro-Romanian preferences as the people last Sunday voted depending on beliefs, the intellectual level, training that was higher than average and this shows that there is a very precious electoral nucleus that could extend quickly and give birth to a political force.

Adrian Dupu, who heads the branch in Moldova of the National Liberal Party of Romania, said changes to the better will start in Romania and also in Moldova after the European Parliament elections. “Yesterday’s result is a serious signal that the people here want a big change, that the people here put their hope in the National Liberal Party first of all, that they hope the politicians in Bucharest will pay greater attention to what is going on here and will act with celerity whenever a departure is witnessed,” Adrian Dupu stated in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.

In the same program, National Unity Party president Anatol Șalaru said Moldova’s relationship with the European Parliament depends on what the government in Chisinau does. “The EU’s attitude to Russia’s actions in Moldova hasn’t always been the same. Some of the countries support the regime in Tiraspol, made common front with Russia over Moldova’s domestic policy. That’s why we hope the attitude in the EU will also change,” stated Anatol Șalaru.

The snap parliamentary elections were already included in the agenda of the Ukrainian political scene for July 21, 2019. The same event can swiftly occur in Moldova when the deadlines for activating Parliament expire, expert in political sciences Dionis Cenușa said in a feature for IPN News Agency. Howsever, these risk having a destructive character as the keeping of the mixed vote will maintain practically the same result for the tree main political forces. This way, the existing political crisis would not be solved, but only delayed and, respectively, perpetuated. Together with this, the possibility of restoring the foreign financing would be postponed. At the same time, the political destabilization in the country keeps discouraging the investors and has a stimulating impact on emigration flows, argued Dionis Cenușa.

The expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Ion Tăbârță said that to secure its energy sector, the Republic of Moldova should modernize and restructure it so as to overcome the vulnerabilities inherited from the past. He wrote that this process takes place much slower than planned, with delays in adopting legislation and in modernizing the energy infrastructure. When there is important support from outside, such an attitude shows things are intentionally thwarted at internal level.

The kindergartens that close in summer or reduce the working program are a problem for the parents who continue working in the period. A study conducted by Constanța Popescu for the Independent Think Tank “Expert-Grup” says the situation should be remedied as a matter of urgency at a time when the birth rate declined by over 15% during the past five years, the employers complain they do not have enough employees and many parents cannot work in summer to maintain their children. As a result, the closing of kindergartens in summer is detrimental to children’s rights. To avoid such situations, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research should take measures.

Poet, prose writer, dramaturg and translator Petru Cărare died at the age of 84. During his lifetime, he was conferred the medal “Mihai Eminescu”, the honorific title “Master of Literature”, the National Literature Award and is a knight of the Order of the Republic.
