The death rate among men is different from that among women. The number of men who die from poisonings is three times higher than of women. As regards infectious and parasitical diseases, the death rate among men is 2.7 times higher than among women, diseases of the respiratory system – 1.8 times, while tumors – 1.2 times. However, the number of women who die from diseases of the circulatory apparatus is 1.3 times higher than of men, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the National Bureau of Statistics.
As the previous years, most of the deaths in Moldova last year were caused by diseases of the circulatory apparatus – 64% of women and 48.7% of men. The accidents, poisonings and traumas caused the death of 3.9% of women and 12.0% of men, the tumors – of 12.4% of women and 14.6% of men, while the digestive system diseases – of 12.4% of women and 14.6% of men.
The rate of mortality from practically all the diseases mentioned is higher in the north of Moldova. In central Moldova, the number of deaths caused by diseases of the digestive system is 1.3 times higher than the average, while in the south of the country the rate of deaths caused by external factors is higher than in the other regions.
A number of 42,138 persons died in Moldova in 2009, up 0.5% compared with last year. The general mortality rate was 11.8 per 1,000 people, the same as in 2008.
