The Socialist MPs consider the Constitutional Court’s ruling that Parliament can be dissolved and snap parliamentary elections can be called is contradictory and defies the previous recommendations of the Venice Commission. For their part, the PAS MPs welcome the Court’s decision and recommend all the political parties to start preparations for the new electoral exercise, IPN reports.

The Socialists said the CC judgment of April 15 defied all the constitutional norms and made the constitutional judges who ruled in favor of the dissolution of Parliament look similar to the CC members of the time of Plahotniuc.

“We witnessed the taking of a contradictory decision by the Constitutional Court. I don’t know if it happened earlier for two of the five CC judges to have a separate opinion. By this decision, the Constitutional Court ignored its previous case law and defied the recommendations of the Venice Commission. A rupture in the Court’s unity was witnessed today,” Socialist MP Vasile Bolea stated in the talk show “In Depth” on ProTV channel.

On the other hand, the representatives of the PAS recommend the Socialists to comply with the CC ruling and not to waste their energy on useless polemics and to start preparations for snap elections.

“We welcome the Court’s decision. Our arguments that the conditions for dissolving Parliament were met were accepted by the High Court. This is a decision that was expected by the citizens. We are waiting for the President’s decree and for the date of the snap elections to be set so that the parties could start to prepare for snap elections,” said the acting president of the PAS Igor Grosu.

In accordance with the law, Parliament cannot be dissolved during the state of emergency. The Parliament’s decision to declare a state of emergency for a period of two months was challenged in the Constitutional Court for the reason that the MPs cannot ask to declare a state of emergency as this is the prerogative of a plenipotentiary Government or the President.
