The micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and private individuals that intend to start a business will be able to benefit from grants for tech startups. This is non-reimbursable financing in the forms of grants in the amount of at most 80%, but not more than 500,000 lei. The Government approved the program to support digital invitations and tech startups, IPN reports.

Minister of Economy Sergiu Gaibu said the program will work based on three thematic financing components. Digital innovation refers to innovatory ideas and methods that led to the development of digital or electronic products, services or methods. The second component, green technology, refers to progress in research and development that lead to new technology products and services designed to replace materials, vehicles, processes and systems that generate negative results for the environment. The third component includes sustainable products, namely the development of processes, practices and innovative applications that would transform the existing industrial production methods so as to promote circularity of resources.

The Organization for the Development of the Sector of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises is to design an operational manual for carrying out the program that will stipulate the implementation stages and conditions.

At least 13 people have died, and others are missing after the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Tuesday in southwestern Japan. The Kyushu region was shaken by over 100 aftershocks, and authorities are warning about the risk of more powerful earthquakes in the coming days, reports BBC, quoted by IPN.

Rescue operations continue under difficult conditions, amid temperatures of up to +35 degrees Celsius. Over 4,600 rescuers are searching for survivors among the ruins of a shopping center and a paper factory, where several people are still missing. Japan’s Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, stated that retrieving those trapped under the rubble is “a real race against time.”

Thousands of people have been evacuated to temporary shelters, and several homes have been left without electricity. The earthquake caused cracks in roads and bridges, fires in buildings, and the suspension of railway traffic in the affected areas.

The Japan Meteorological Agency warns that new strong earthquakes could occur in the next two to three days. The earthquake had its epicenter about 20 kilometers south of the city of Kumamoto, at a depth of about 10 kilometers. The magnitude was initially estimated at 7.1 by the Japanese Meteorological Agency, but the United States Geological Service later revised it to 6.8.

Six new undergraduate study programs will be available in universities in the Republic of Moldova. These are specializations in Furniture Design, Geographic Information Systems, Tourism Geography, Bioinformatics, Pharmacy Assistance and Sports and Tourism Travel. The introduction of these was approved on Wednesday by the Government, reports IPN.

According to the Ministry of Education and Research, the update of the study offer takes place in the context of the emergence of new fields and professions, but also the need to train specialists adapted to the current requirements of the labor market.

“By introducing these specializations, we offer young people the opportunity to prepare for fields with potential for development and respond to requests from employers”, declared Minister Dan Perciun. According to him, the goal is for graduates to acquire relevant skills and have better employment prospects.

By the same Government decision, the study program “Water supply, sewerage” will be renamed “Water Engineering”. The new name reflects a broader field, which includes water resource management, flood prevention and water quality monitoring.
