Three organizations – Unirea-ODIP, the Association Against Corruption, and the Institute of Social History “ProMemoria” – have decided to erect a bust to Alexandru Oatu, a member of the Country Council. The location chosen – the courtyard of the building that housed the Country Council’s famous meeting that proclaimed the union with Romania in 1918. Unirea-ODIP leader Vlad Bilețchi said the idea to have the bust installed as a tribute to a historical personality is “simple, noble and well-intentioned”, and “doesn’t mean to cause any harm”, but rather promote culture and national heritage. He says the place selected for the bust is “abandoned and in ruins”. “It’s bewildering how one can vote against a bust there, when all you have around is a dilapidated building and a square full of garbage and debris”, stated Vlad Bilețchi.

The Republic of Moldova benefited from a series of benefits during the ten-year membership in the Eastern Partnership (EaP). The citizens got the right to travel visa-free in the EU member states, while the economic relations with the European countries extended. However, during the ten years Moldova didn’t fully benefit from the opportunities provided by the EaP, said participants in a conference entitled “Eastern Partnerships on the Tenth Anniversary – Together, More Powerful”.

Socialist lawmakers haven’t shown up for a discussion that MPs of the ACUM parliamentary group hoped to have on April 24. “Sadly, the PSRM have demonstrated they aren’t ready to discuss seriously about what can be done by means of such an important institution like Parliament of Moldova”, MP Mihai Popșoi (ACUM/PAS) told reporters.

If snap parliamentary elections took place, the ratio of forces in the legislature would not change significantly, shows an option poll conducted by the company “Intelligent Data”. Some 38.1% of the respondents would vote for the Party of Socialists, 27.7% for the Bloc ACUM, 24.1% for the Democratic Party, while the Shor Party would get 5.4% of the vote with an electoral threshold of 6%. only 3.8% of the respondents expect a coalition between ACUM and the Democrats, whereas 7.5% of those surveyed are for the formation of a minority government by any of the parties that entered Parliament. Almost 40% of those interviewed said they do not have an opinion on the issue or do not want to state it.

The children who will travel to an education institution by school buses and minibuses will be accompanied by a person trained in road traffic safety. The new provisions are designed to better ensure the security of students that use school transport. The measures planned to be taken are aimed at instituting school transport services and at specifying the responsibilities of entities or persons authorized to implement the regulations.

The parking of private units of transport at a number of addresses in the capital city will be restricted during April 24-28 to ensure the free and unimpeded movement of all the traffic participants. These are the streets adjoining the Central Auto Terminal, the North Auto Terminal, the Central Market and the “Domus” Market.

All the internal customs posts will work uninterruptedly throughout the period of the Easter holidays and the mini-vacations of May 1 and May 9. These will work according to a program extended by two or three hours, depending on the number of crossings.

Effective on May 1, the guaranteed minimum wage in the real sector will increase by 165 lei to 2775 lei per month. This means employers will not be allowed to pay less than 16.42 lei an hour. This was decided by the Government on April 24.

The Holy Fire from Jerusalem will be brought to Moldova this year as well. This will reach the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth” in Chisinau in the evening of April 27, between 7pm and 8pm. From there it will be distributed to priests and parishioners who will carry it all over the country.
